Protect your skin in the summer with my tried and tested suncare products.

Summer is finally here and its time to get your skin prepped, protected and ready for the sun.

These are some of my favourite products and the ones which are perfect for ensuring you are fully protected and looking healthy and ready for the sun. In terms of a good sunscreen it should be preventing damage to your skin by blocking both UVB (ultraviolet B-rays) and UVA (ultraviolet A-rays) radiation. UVB is what burns your skin and has the most effect in skin cancer cases (melanoma) but its also what tans your skin, so you need a good sun cream that boosts your natural skin’s protection while still helping you tan but not burn. UVA rays may also cause some damage and increase the chances of melanoma, but its more focused on ageing and breaking down the collagen in your skin which needs good protection.

Therefore a sun-cream needs to be able to prevent most of these damaging effects and you need to look for the word broad-spectrum on suncare products, which means they prevent both UVB and UVA rays. Some may have a sign at the back with stars telling you how good the UVA protection is. Going natural and organic with your summer skincare is also your best bet for your precious skin and avoiding as much chemicals in suncare as possible. Touch wood in every holiday for the past 7 years I have not burned and I have tanned slowly (its not ideal to stay too long in the sun) and my tan lasts longer. Also some sun creams gave me spots in the past, whereas these ones improve my skin while I’m out in the sun or swimming on holiday in the beach, as most don’t have a fragrance and are ideal for sensitive skin.

I tend to mix and match with the products too and I also use an oil before I apply sun-cream with coconut oil and carrot oil (Carrot Sun® Coconut Tan Accelerator Spray Oil), which protect your skin from further damage and also boosts the tanning process, so you don’t need to stay in the sun for too long to achieve good results and it also leaves your skin with a bronze glow once you achieve your tan, which I love.

These are my favourite and best sun creams that not only protect the skin but improve the skin’s texture and make my skin feel so fresh and healthy.

After suncare is also important! :

Aloe vera and shea butter are also the best after-sun lotions for repairing skin damage and also prolonging your tan, so you carry on glowing for longer and look great, who doesn’t like that!.

  • Organic Aloe Vera after sun lotion:

Ideal for soothing skin.

Aloe Pura Aloe Vera Lotion with Shea Butter & Vit. E

This is also an excellent Aloe vera product and great for summer skin but also I use it during the year and it prevents stretch marks and softens the already existing marks and scars.

 Monoi Tiare Tahiti oil.

Probably the best after sun oil to prolong your tan! It has gold specs in it to give your tan a boost, it smells divine like vanilla and gardenia flowers. The coconut oil in this product prevents skin-ageing and makes you look amazing. I tend to use this at night time before bed time and add a bit to the legs and arms if I'm going out. Expect lots of compliments.

Overall a bit of sunshine and getting a healthy glow in the summer is good for you as you need Vitamin D for your bones and immune system, but staying too long sun bathing and tanning even with sunscreen is not ideal in the long-term. Sometimes you need to do yourself a favour if you have sensitive skin and fake a tan with the latest high-performance self-tanners and bronzers. But for now in this post its all about the best sun-creams I have used. Until next time, hope everyone is having a good summer! 🙂

  1. Wish I’d seen this post earlier, great info! May help for my holiday in May 2016 to Mauritius. Also is the oil best used just at night? as I have quite oily skin, so not sure if it would be the right product for me, but it does look good. Thanks.
